States

-Greg

If you've read my most recent post, you'll know I'm not exactly thrilled to play Standard. Also, if you were at Pastimes this past Saturday, you'll know that the level of hatred I have for playing Jund is probably second only to the hatred I had for last season's 5CC lists. So, with States coming up this weekend, I'm trying to hit that balance between playing a deck that is strong enough to win, and doesn't make me hate every match. Looks like I'm going back to the GWb list I ran a few weeks ago.

Here's the list. Any tips or ideas for how to strengthen it are greatly appreciated.

If you hate jund check out the Naya Lightsaber deck that won at worlds. You seem to have the cards for it. The list is on deckcheck.net.

  2. That's a Flores deck, right? I'm pretty sure it's one of the decks Brenna and I tested for the 1K this past weekend. A friend and I are testing decks tonight, so I'll make sure to run this one through the gauntlet again.

    Thanks!

  3. Pretty sure you want to be running Emeria Angel somewhere in this deck. Possibly cut 1 Thornling and the 2 Garruk for 3 Angels. It has synergy with the 11 Fetches you are running and also with the Knight of Reliquary. The extra Thornling can be moved into the board as it is insane against Jund. Maybe switch a PTE from the board for a Maelstrom Pulse. I do not like Garruk in this format bc he eats a blightning all day. I like the Zealous Persecution in the board. I would possibly cut the Duress for Mind Rots and the Tidehollow Scullers for 1 Thornling and 2 Dauntless Escort. Another suggestion would be testing an Oran Rief instead of a forest. Another would be running Gargoyle Castle in the main of board as a 1 of. Testing can either prove or damper this theory from decks Ive seen ppl playing on MODO.

  4. Garruk has been probably the weakest link in testing. The extra ramp isn't necessary, and the beast tokens end up just being blockers - an application for which Emeria Angel would be much better.

I've toyed with pulse/path number quite a bit, and the pulse-heavy main was to deal with all the Eldrazi Monuments. You're probably right, though; I've proven to be unable to handle the power of Maelstrom Pulse.

The Sculler/Duress package I brought in to deal with a fuzzy meta, expecting to play against a bunch of bad anti-Jund control decks. Forcing people to play off-the-top with Mind Rot seems like a better idea, since this deck has arguably much better top-decks than most others. Then again, they seem pretty necessary if this Jacerator deck is heavily represented. I've also thought about adding Fleshbag Marauder in this spot to deal with shroud creatures.

Guessing the meta is a little difficult, enough so that I've been toying with playing Necrogenesis in the board to deal with graveyards. I feel like if I can take out the Extractor Demons from the Nu Dredge decks then it's almost impossible to lose.
